JVC HD100U HDV Camcorder: First Impressions

David Tamés test drives the new JVC HD100U camera which joins a crop of new affordable HD camcorders.

It's a breakthrough year - 2005 is officially the year that HD camcorders finally dipped below the $10K price barrier. Late in 2004 Sony started shipping the HDR-FX1 camcorder which was quickly followed up in early 2005 with the HVR-Z1U sporting professional features. Then at NAB 2005 back in April Panasonic announced the HVX200 camcorder while JVC announced the HD100U camcorder. Last month Canon joined the fray with their announcement of the XL H1. Fostering the Indie Spirit

Sam Colson

Creator and Producer of "Indie Spirit," Sam Colson talks about his new television show aiming to expose audiences to the unique and artistic works of new independent filmmakers on the scene today.

Sam Colson is a busy man these days. He spends his time juggling work as a stern man on a Maine lobster boat with a part-time job at an independent movie theater, with freelance video production work on the side. Colson is now also working on producing "Indie Spirit," his television program designed to give new filmmakers the chance to screen their works to the public.

The Student Video Slam takes place at Ryan Family Concert and Lecture Hall at Providence College on November 16, 2005 at 9 pm.

Students Matthew Weber and Mathew Silva Students Matthew Weber and Mathew Silva discuss their respective short films "The Break" and "The Letter" screening this month at the Student Video Slam at Providence College.

On November 16, 2005 at 9 pm in the Ryan Family Concert and Lecture Hall of Providence College, the film department will present their Student Video Slam, which they describe as, "an open festival of work in all genres by student filmmakers." The festival accepted submissions from students at both Providence College and Brown University.
