Thinking Big

By Karen Sampson
Liz Donius and Amy Elliott.

Filmmakers Amy Elliott and Liz Donius explore the vanishing culture of small-town America in their latest film, "The World’s Largest."

As bunkmates at Convent of the Sacred Heart’s summer farm camp in Connecticut, Amy Elliott and Liz Donius would sneak off during "quiet hour" to concoct artistic endeavors. Kindred spirits from the day they met, the girls shared a friendship, a sense of humor, and a creative spark that would carry them through their school years -- and beyond. Writer/director Todd Norwood has done a fantastic job of capturing the essence of Northern Massachusetts in his debut feature film, "The Wayfarers."

Two Men in a Barn

By Ann Jackman

What happens when you and your brother are locked in barn with nowhere to go? Actor/screenwriter Jake Broder uses surreal dark humor to chronicle the unique journey of his confined characters in his latest film, "The Barn."

The Marx Brothers in a version of "Waiting for Godot"? Samuel Beckett given a writing credit for "Duck Soup"? While neither of these scenarios ever happened, a combination of these two seemingly disparate cultural icons can be felt in the new film, "The Barn," the first feature written by actors/screenwriters Jake Broder and Adam Long, who credit both Beckett and the Marx Brothers as major stylistic influences.
